Halloween in a Small Town by ZacPensol Halloween in a Small Town by ZacPensol
My entry for the Rockcastle County Beautification Project

The entries were supposed to reflect one of the four seasons and carry the 'atmosphere' I guess of our town and surrounding area. My mind immediately went to Halloween - it's my absolute favorite time of year, both with the 'theme' of the holiday as well as the colors of autumn.

Halloween in a small town was always something I enjoyed - you feel safe knowing most of your neighbors, less-traveled roads, etc, so I wanted to reflect that feeling here. I remember as a kid feeling like I owned the night - parents following their children around were virtually invisible without costumes like us kids, cars were slow and would wait for you, and neighbors freely dispensed candy. I suppose, in my head, this is how I saw Halloween and I wanted to showcase that bright magic for this picture.

Done in ink, scanned, then colored in Photoshop.
